Icarus Incarnated

Had Apollo caught Icarus,

before desire led him to drown.

Would his wings become glorious,

would his hubris gain renown?

Had Apollo caught Icarus,

the tragedy would be etched as a ballad.

Arms of fire that saved wings so treacherous,

faith that led to a fate so gallant.

Had Apollo caught Icarus,

the dreamers would dare to fly.

It would rewrite the apparatus

of those audacious enough to try.

When Apollo caught Icarus,

all the ambitious took flight.

A tale so vivaciously vicarious,

they fell back into embrace or blight.
